Our verdict
The Atlas 14 is the first fanless ARM ultraportable we can recommend without hedging on battery: two genuine working days, complete silence, and a display that punches well above its price. Everyday performance is flagship-grade and it holds up under sustained load better than a fanless machine has any right to. The catch is the familiar one — a handful of specialist x86 applications still run through emulation, and when they do, you feel it. For web, office, code and creative work that has been ported, it is superb. For a locked-in legacy toolchain, wait a generation.

The short version
Every fanless laptop makes the same promise and most of them break it somewhere around the second hour of real work. The Atlas 14 does not. Over two weeks as a daily driver it went from Monday morning to Wednesday lunchtime on a charge, never once spun up a fan it does not have, and never got hot enough to be unpleasant on a lap. That is the headline, and it is earned. What you trade for it is a narrower software story than an x86 machine and a port selection that assumes you own a dongle.
Design and build
It is a 1.19kg aluminium wedge that feels considerably more expensive than it is. The lid has almost no flex, the hinge opens one-handed and holds its angle, and the whole thing survived a fortnight of being shoved into a bag without picking up a mark. At 14.9mm it is thin without being fragile, and because there is no fan there are no intake grilles to clog — the underside is a clean, unbroken plate.
The finish is a matte anodised grey that resists fingerprints far better than the glossy machines it competes with. Small thing, but you notice it every day.
The display
A 14.2-inch 3K OLED at 120Hz is the single most obvious place the money went. Blacks are genuinely black, motion is smooth enough that scrolling text stays readable, and it hit a measured 486 nits in SDR — enough for a bright room, though direct sun still wins. Colour out of the box tracked close to sRGB without calibration, which is more than most laptops manage.
The one caveat is the glossy finish. It is gorgeous indoors and a mirror on a sunny train.
Battery: the headline
This is why you buy it. Our standard loop — 40 browser tabs, a video call every hour, a code editor and a music stream, screen at 150 nits — returned 17 hours 40 minutes. In practice that meant two full working days between charges, and I stopped carrying the charger to the office in the second week.
Video playback pushed past 21 hours. Even a deliberately hostile day of sustained compiling and exports still cleared nine hours, which is roughly what a conventional ultraportable manages doing nothing much at all. Charging is the weak spot: 0 to 80 per cent takes about 70 minutes, which is fine rather than fast.
Performance, and the ARM question
For everything that runs natively, this is a fast laptop. Browsers, office suites, the mainstream code editors, photo work and 4K video edits all ran without a stutter, and crucially without throttling — sustained multi-core load dropped only about 9 per cent from peak over a 20-minute export, which is remarkable with no active cooling.
Then there is the other column. A handful of specialist applications — some engineering and scientific tools, a lot of older plug-ins, a few games — still run through the x86 translation layer. Compatibility was better than expected; almost everything launched. Speed was the issue: emulated workloads ran roughly 25 to 40 per cent slower than native, and that is the difference between a tool that feels instant and one that makes you wait.
So the buying question is not "is it fast" but "is your software ported". For most people in 2026 the answer is yes. If your day depends on one stubborn legacy application, check it specifically before you spend.
Keyboard, trackpad and ports
The keyboard is quietly excellent: 1.4mm of travel, a firm bottom-out and a genuinely useful backlight. The trackpad is large, glass, and its haptics are convincing enough that you stop thinking about it, which is the highest compliment a trackpad gets.
Ports are where the thinness bill comes due. You get two USB-C ports (either charges it), a headphone jack, and nothing else. No HDMI, no card reader, no USB-A. Plug in a charger and a monitor and you are already full. A dock solves it, but you should budget for one.
Should you buy it?
If you work away from a desk and battery anxiety shapes your day, the Atlas 14 is the most convincing answer on the market: two days of real use, silent, cool, with a display you will enjoy looking at. At AU$2,499 for the 16GB model it is priced fairly against conventional ultraportables that cannot come close on endurance.
Two caveats before you buy. Check that the software you actually depend on runs natively — if it does not, you are paying flagship money for an emulated experience. And budget for a dock, because two ports is two ports. Clear both hurdles and this is the easiest laptop recommendation we have made this year.
